Mitsuo Kariya joined the firm in 2019 as a counsel thereto, after serving as Licensing Vice President at GE Japan for 12 years, IP Senior Manager at Lucent Technologies Japan for 9 years and Patent Group Manager and various IP legal roles at Toshiba for 17 years. Mr. Kariya has particular expertise in the fields of Semiconductor, Electronic Component, Computer, Wired and Wireless Telecommunication, Video/Audio Codec, Healthcare Device, Motor Drive System, Elevator and Electric Train System. Mr. Kariya has plenty of experiences in patent prosecution for domestic and foreign patent filings. He has good understanding on the differences in patent practices between Europe, US and Japan from the experiences at the European patent law firm and the US companies.
Through the licensing experiences, he gained a deep insight into patent prosecution for obtaining strong patents which survive counterarguments by potential licensees/competitors. He is also active in the Licensing Executives Society and has been developing professional network which would help client’s licensing and defense activities.
